Ashan was a Sayr-Savim elder and close friend of both Timmorran Lokander and the great Sunderman general Waiqar ibn Neshar al-Bagavad the Unconquered. Ashan met the young Timmorran after the boy fled to Al-Kalim from Uthuk assassins in Lorimor. Timmorran offered his services to the tribe of Ashan the Elder and grew to become an ever more potent magician and adventurer.
In the year 481, during the First Darkness, Timmorran persuaded Ashan the Elder to send forces to the defense of Talindon, reasoning that if Llovar could not be stopped there, he would bring war to Ghom in time. They arranged for an army of Sundermen to be assembled and a struck a deal with the fleet of Lorimor to sail them from Ghom to Lorimor and then up the Flametail River to join Falladir’s forces. The plan took a full year to come to fruition, and in 482, Timmorran reinforced the alliance against the Uthuk Y'llan.
In the Battle of the Locust, Ashan was the third sacrifice to Kul. After King Triamlavar was shot in the belly by the Serpent, and after a bodkin arrow punctured Halgir's skull, Ashan the Elder was hit with a barrage of shafts that perforated the Sunderman’s lungs. His sacrifice saved Timmorran from the Uthuk assault, allowing the mighty wizard to cast down Llovar Rutonu and end the First Darkness.
The descendants of Ashan the Elder are active in the elite sorcerer class of the Collegiate Arcane. They adhere to strict traditions inherited from the culture of Ashan's ancient tribe.
